Dairy Research Institute

The Dairy Research Institute has a rich history that span from 1904 when the current KALRO Naivasha was started as a livestock experimental station. It was then known as Agricultural Experimental Station at Naivasha to address the initial challenges faced by white settlers who kept livestock.  After 1963, it reverted to the service of the Kenyan livestock farmers as National Animal Husbandry Research Centre until year 2013. The birth of Dairy Research Institute was occasioned by on-going parastatal reform programme by the Kenyan Government. Under this reform, GoK repealed the KARI Act of 1989 giving rise to 16 institutes under KALRO.The Dairy Research Institute is a premier institution created under the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Act No 17 of 2013 to provide technical support to the dairy sector through generation of appropriate dairy technologies and innovations.
